Broken Meeple Top Ten - Games of 2017

As we end what has been a hit and miss year for me and board games, we reflect on the best of the best! I didn't find 2017 to be as great as other years, but there were still a decent amount of games to pick my Top Ten from. Did your favourite make the list? Are you angered that Gloomhaven didn't come close?

Broken Meeple Videos - Alien Artifacts Review

"Alien Artifacts provides a true 4X experience in under an hour. With over two hundred cards, Alien Artifacts offers players many scoring strategies and great replay-ability."

That's a bold claim - I'll be the judge of that!

Last review before I take a break for a few days for Xmas shenanigans! Have a great Xmas and I'll see you in time for the end of December where you can look forward to my Top Ten of 2017!

Season 2 Episode 22 - XMAS!

2017 draws to a close and it's time to reflect on the year as a whole. In addition I'll also be giving my initial thoughts on Keyper and Charterstone (only spoilers will be 1st game only but skip if you don't want to hear anything) as well as introducing a brand new segment where I talk about a game I've owned for years to see whether it's stood the test of time.

Broken Meeple Videos - Scythe: The Wind Gambit

Scythe: The Wind Gambit, an expansion for Scythe, adds two new modules that can be played together or separately at any player count and with either the base game on its own or with other Scythe expansions:

• Airships: (1 miniature per faction; 16 tiles) An airship is a new type of unit that is distinctly different from characters, mechs, and workers. Unlike those units, airships never control territories. Airships are moved via a Move action, and rivers and lakes do not constrain their movement. Each airship has two randomly combined abilities (1 aggressive and 1 passive ability; same combo for all players).

• Resolutions: (8 tiles) The resolution module changes the way a game of Scythe ends. If you play with this module, ignore the standard end-game trigger (when a player places their sixth star, everything stops and the game ends). Instead, the resolution tile for the current game will determine when and how the game ends.

How do these change the game? Find out now!

Was it for legit reasons? Are fans clinging on to theories too tightly? Or were there some actual issues with the movie?

There will be spoilers, be warned!

Broken Meeple Videos - Civilization: A New Dawn Review

Sid Meier's Civilization: A New Dawn is a strategy board game in which two to four players act as the rulers of history's most memorable empires. Over the course of the game, players will expand their domains, gain new technologies, and build many of humanity's greatest wonders. In the end, one nation will rise above all others to leave its indelible mark upon history.

The other FFG version is an amazing game but it's also a 3-4 hour monster to learn, teach and play. This one claims that with a little abstraction it can fit the time in less than 2 hours. What has it sacrificed to achieve this?

Broken Meeple Videos - Time Stories: Estrella Drive Review

In Hollywood, the ghosts of the past never sleep! Embark on your next adventure into the past with Estrella Drive, the sixth expansion for T.I.M.E Stories. Like all T.I.M.E Stories adventures, you and your fellow players are members of the T.I.M.E Agency, sent to investigate a disruption to the Time Stream. This time, you and your fellow agents are sent to 1982 to investigate a temporal anomaly in a supposedly haunted Hollywood mansion.

The saga of Time Stories with The Game Shelf continue with Estrella Drive - what do I think of this one and where does it rank among the rest?

Please note that Estrella Drive is recommended for mature audiences as certain themes within this adventure may be objectionable to younger players. Also this review will be Spoiler-Lite.

Broken Meeple Videos - Azul Review

In the game Azul, players take turns drafting colored tiles from suppliers to their player board. Later in the round, players score points based on how they've placed their tiles to decorate the palace. Extra points are scored for specific patterns and completing sets; wasted supplies harm the player's score. The player with the most points at the end of the game wins.

Is it as beautiful as they say? Is it too mean for some? Is this one of the first abstract games to actually cater fine for multiplayer? Find out more in the review!
